In setting up a workgroup between computers of same Windows, usually there are no problems. But between computers of different operation system such as WINDOWS XP to WINDOWS 10, for example, we usually got the following MSG if we want to create a workgroup under name YEN :
HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM ?
– forget the old workgroup name, create new ones. Name should has more than 4 letters. YEN, SQT, THT are not OK for my test. FAMILY IS OK.
– Don’t need to use the utility in MY NETWORK PLACES to create the new workgroup name. Right click MY COMPUTER, right click Property, click computer name:
- click Change
Change workgroup name to your desired ones. Here I change from THT to FAMILY:
- RESTART YOUR MACHINE
DO SAME THING FOR ANOTHER COMPUTER (S).

Workgroup setting at Computer Monica is successful. Note that the operation system of Monica is XP:
